Let me explain a little about me and how I got into fitness!
I’ve always loved sport, I am an avid football fan and support Tottenham Hotspur (for my sins) and love nothing more than going to matches (before the pandemic anyway!)
At school I loved netball, hockey, basketball and surprise surprise football always playing in the playground with my older brother and his mates!!
When I was 15, I was playing hockey at school and my foot rolled on a hockey ball causing a severe sprain, I’ve never seen anything like it, it was like the hockey ball had been inserted into my ankle it was that swollen, anyway, fast forward numerous years and ever since that accident I was rolling over on that ankle every week, I could no longer do any sports or enjoy the gym or anything active in fear of rolling it again, every time I went for a run, my ankle and knees would give out on me and I thought it’s not worth it!
Back in 2013 I tripped and dislocated my ankle (again!!), that resulted in me having it operated on to try and fix it once and for all, for the next 18 months things were great until one day I was on holiday in Tenerife and the wave pool caught me by surprise, pushed me forward and ‘bang’ ankle went again!
For the few years that followed I was extra cautious about doing anything on my ankle! However, one day, I thought it was a good idea to try a pair of skinny jeans on in a shop, any ladies reading this will know what I mean when I say I had to jump to get them over my butt, as I did that my right foot slipped from under me and I went down breaking the bone off the bottom of my leg!! I won’t go into the gruesome details but I had my leg in a cast and boot for 8 weeks! During those 8 weeks something snapped in my head and I decided after all these years I needed to shift the weight that I had piled on and build up my joints, I was fed up of constantly going over on my ankle, so I decided to join my local sports centre, nervous was an understatement!
I went once or twice and thought to myself if I don’t learn how to do this properly, I won’t stick it out so decided to have a chat to a personal trainer, we had a 45 min consultation where he went through all the information about me, my habits including my eating habits, fitness goals, personal goals, everything, he pretty much knew my life story by the end of it and he totally understood my reasons for wanting to train and build strength!
And so my journey began! Fast forward through a lot of blood sweat and tears and on the other hand a lot of laughs and jokes and achievements and I’ve lost almost 5 stone, am stronger than I have ever been and getting stronger each day and my ankle finally after all these years feel strong and stable enabling me to do what I enjoy, sport and fitness I now love nothing more than barbell squats, deadlifts, hips thrusts and the leg press and decided I wanted to be able to do this for other people so decided to train as a personal trainer to help other people achieve what I have!
Since this time, I have suffered more injuries to my legs including a torn hamstring and quad muscle, an operation on my knee for arthritis and have been diagnosed with hip arthritis.
So I have empathy and know some of the frustrations my clients feel.
I thrive in helping people get back to doing activities of daily living and rehab.
Anything is possible, you don’t have to be great to get started but you have to get started to be great!!!!
